About WCWA

A wrestling academy built for long-term athlete development

We exist to develop better wrestlers and better people. Our coaches build durable athletes through structured technique, intelligent conditioning, and a culture families trust.

Every program is led by credentialed coaches in Riverside, California.

Our mission

Develop wrestlers. Build people.

West Coast Wrestling Academy is a year-round academy serving athletes from their first steps on the mat through their high school career. We measure success in habits, character, and a love of the sport that lasts past the final whistle.

Athlete-first

Every decision starts with what's best for the child, then the wrestler.

Safety and integrity

Trained coaches, age-appropriate progressions, and a welcoming room culture.

Long-term growth

We coach the ten-year arc, not the next weekend bracket.

Family partnership

Real communication with parents through weekly notes, check-ins, and open conversations.

Coaching philosophy

How we coach, every practice

The same four principles shape every session, from a first-year athlete learning stance to a varsity wrestler preparing for postseason.

  1. 01
    Technique before intensity

Master positions and movement first. Volume and intensity follow form.

  2. 02
    Live wrestling with intent

Situational drills and structured live sets, never random sparring.

  3. 03
    Mental skills as a curriculum

Composure, self-talk, and pre-match routines coached like any technique.

  4. 04
    Strength built for wrestling

Age-appropriate strength and conditioning focused on positions, posture, and resilience.

Development model

A clear pathway from first step to varsity

Placement considers age first, then experience and coach guidance. Advanced placement is always available for athletes who are ready.

Stage 1Ages 5–9

Explorers

A fun and structured wrestling program focused on fundamental technique, coordination, discipline, confidence, and athletic development. Young wrestlers learn through movement, games, and age-appropriate instruction in a positive and encouraging environment. Athletes are gradually introduced to competition, learning basic match skills, sportsmanship, and how to compete with confidence—while having fun and building a lifelong love for wrestling.

Stage 2Ages 10–14

Pioneers

A developmental wrestling program focused on improving technique, strength, conditioning, confidence, and competitive skills. Pioneers prepares young athletes to take the next step in both training and competition. Wrestlers sharpen their fundamentals, develop match strategy, and build the physical and mental toughness needed to compete successfully. Athletes will have opportunities to participate in local, regional, and national tournaments based on their experience and readiness.

Stage 3Ages 15+

High School

An advanced, high-performance wrestling program focused on elite technique, strength, conditioning, match strategy, and preparation for high-level competition. The High School program is built for serious wrestlers committed to reaching their highest potential. Through elite-level coaching, intense training, individualized development, and a highly competitive practice environment, athletes prepare to succeed at the high school, state, national, collegiate, international, world, and Olympic levels. Our goal is to develop wrestlers who are ready to compete—and win—on the biggest stages.

What makes WCWA different

Why families stay for years, not seasons

The difference shows up in the day-to-day: who coaches, how decisions get made, and how families are treated.

One room, every level

Athletes of every age train in the same building, so younger wrestlers see exactly what the next step looks like.

Coaches who stay

Our staff coaches the same athletes year over year. No rotating volunteers each season.

Honest tournament advice

We tell families when to enter an event and when to wait. Nobody is pushed into a bracket to fill a roster.

Weight handled responsibly

No cutting for youth athletes. Weight conversations happen with coaches, never in the locker room.

Endorsements

What wrestling leaders say about our program

Coaches and champions who have trained, coached, or worked alongside our athletes.

“With the emergence of the West Coast RTC, I've personally seen my kids connect with incredible coaches such as Coach Mostafa and local coaches that spend their evenings at the RTC. My kids have been mentored by these coaches and not only are they great wrestlers, they are better people. I'm appreciative of what the RTC has done for my kids and look forward to many more practices at the gym!”

Harlan Kistler JW North High School Head Coach, Former NCAA Wrestler

“Working with Coach Mostafa and the West Coast RTC has been game-changing for our athletes at Canyon Springs. Coach Mostafa brings invaluable world- and Olympic-level experience to the mat, but what makes him truly special is his ability to connect with and elevate wrestlers of all ages and skill levels. His passion, elite instruction, and dedication to developing total athletes make West Coast RTC an incredible asset for any family looking to take their wrestling to the next level.”

Jason Lowe Canyon Springs Head Coach, Former NCAA D1 wrestler

“Having spent several days training at West Coast RTC and leading a clinic there, I witnessed firsthand the passion, knowledge, and high standards that define this program. Coach Derek Moore and Coach Mostafa Alizadeh bring tremendous experience, but what impressed me most was their commitment to every athlete's growth-both on and off the mat. West Coast RTC is more than a wrestling club; it is a place where wrestlers develop discipline, confidence, character, and the mindset to become champions in wrestling and in life.”
